The issue started back on Oct. 2013. My local Toyota dealership diagnosed the problem as emergency brake cables needing replacement at a cost of $1200. Fast forward to today, the same issue is happening. I think it has something to do with the rear axle. There needs to be a recall by Toyota. I’ve been reading many other third-generation owners having the same issues.
If you’re having the same issue, file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Vehicle Safety Hotline: 888-327-4236 (Monday–Friday, 8am–8pm ET). Report third-generation Tacoma rear wheels locking up.
