Anyone else love their 24 Tacoma but find the app a mess?

I really like my 24’ Tacoma, but the app is terrible. :weary: It’d be great if they at least let us customize the Home Screen since I have to look at it so much.

Anyone else having issues with it? When it actually works, it’s fine, but it logs me out at least once a day, sometimes even more. So every time I need to start the car or lock the doors, I have to log back in. Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

Yeah, it’s a problem across most vehicle models, not just Tacomas.

Really disappointing. Feels like a missed chance to do something great.

It’s clunky on my 23 Tacoma Sport and my wife’s new RAV4 too.

It was actually working fine last summer, but after some updates, it got way worse.

All apps just seem to suck, no matter what they’re for.

Soundbars:

  • Sonos: “Save money! Use your phone as a remote!” Then you try to adjust bass levels: “Update required to use this app.” Suddenly, it can’t find your subwoofer and spams ads for music services instead of, you know, fixing the equalizer.

Cars:

  • Gen 3 Android Auto: “Update your app to continue using Entune.”
  • App store: “App not found,” and now no more working Android Auto.
  • Volvo S60: “Your on-call subscription is about to expire!” Every. Single. Start. “It will expire soon!”
  • Dealer: “Sorry, no more support for 3G modems. Replacement? That’ll be $5,000.”

Food:

  • Hungry and trying to pre-order Taco Bell? “74 MB update needed first!” Why? Was there some new bug affecting taco ordering that had to be patched urgently?

Coffee:

  • Just trying to order my iced coffee because my wife loves it. “Out of stock.” No, it’s not. The app’s inventory system just doesn’t match reality. Programmers clearly don’t drink or serve coffee.

Apple TV:

  • You sit down for a movie night, and Apple TV locks your account if you haven’t used it daily. “Your account has been locked for security reasons!”
  • Unlock it, do the 2FA thing, and then… “Sign in again.” Finally get the movie going, but 15 minutes later: “You’ve been signed out.”
  • Turns out, some option buried deep makes the login expire after 15 minutes. Why does a TV app need that?

@Wren
Glad I don’t rely on apps for everything. But yeah, grocery store apps are the worst. Need the app for discounts or you’ll pay way more. Then in-store WiFi is awful, slowing down the app and keeping you there longer. More time to see things you don’t need while they get your purchase data for more ‘deals’ later.

@Wren
Exactly! Just… exactly.

Same for me. The app is a buggy nightmare, can’t even check the TFS widget and everything else takes ages.

Yeah, seems like everyone’s dealing with it. It’s frustrating for sure.

What annoys me most is the permissions request every time I start the truck. Whether I say yes or no doesn’t matter, it interrupts whatever I’m doing. Just small stuff, but it gets on my nerves.

I know, right? Drives me up the wall!

Crazy world we live in now… apps for trucks?

How much do you actually need this app to use your Tacoma? Personally, I’d ditch it if it were me. When I got my '20, I made sure to cancel all the promo stuff like Sirius XM right away, and even then, they wouldn’t stop calling for a year. Everything they offer is already on Spotify or regular radio.

@Koa
You don’t really need it at all, and they start charging after a year. It’s nice for remote starting, locking, or setting temp from anywhere, but with all the bugs, it’s hardly worth it. I’d just be happy if CarPlay connected properly every time.

Honestly, they’re missing out. Imagine if it could run Netflix and other streaming apps when the vehicle’s parked. If they invested in reliable software like Tesla does, it’d be a game changer. I’m probably going to try one of those media boxes to make it better.

Mine didn’t work at all. Just kept getting emails that my trial had ended. Did the trial even start if it never worked?

One of the worst apps I’ve used. And the TFS one isn’t any better.

I stopped using the Toyota finance app for payments. It just doesn’t work. I use the website and that’s fine.

Haven’t had many issues except for a big outage earlier in the year.

Mine does what I need it to. Shows tire pressure so I don’t have to scroll through the dashboard. Sometimes says doors are unlocked when they aren’t, though.
