hi everyone… just got home with my new 2022 TRD Offroad long bed and I’m loving it. I’ve been planning to put a cap on the bed and a roof rack on top. only problem is I need more secure storage… the cab doesn’t give me much room. a toolbox would have been simple but doesn’t work well with a cap. I’m thinking of getting a strong lockable box I can strap down at the back of the bed, either to the floor or maybe to a MOLLE rack on the back wall. anyone done this before and found a box that works great? would be perfect if it could stretch across the width of the bed. I noticed I’ll need to leave a little space behind the box so the lid can open if I mount it to the back wall, but that’s no big deal. let me know what’s worked for you.
you could check out the Decked system too

yeah… the BX135 looks like my best option so far. I did check out the Decked system and thought I’d go that way, but I’m not sure about losing that much bed space—especially once the cap is on.
@Paxton
I have the Decked system and it’s great. it fits under my tonneau and still locks even if I take the tonneau off. plus it’s got quick release pins so it’s easy to take out when needed.
the Pelican BX135 might be what you need. it can mount to the bedside rails using their kit, or you can just use straps or your own setup. there’s also the bigger BX255 if you’re thinking about placing it near the tailgate… just know it’s too wide to fit between the wheel wells on a Tacoma bed.
@Marlow
the BX135 might end up being too small depending on what you’re trying to keep in there. just something to keep in mind.
Decked might actually be a solid choice for you. I’m planning to get one installed later this year myself.
you might want to look into the Smartcap system. it’s made of steel and it locks. pretty tough to beat when it comes to keeping stuff safe.
this is what I’m thinking of using — looks strong and compact. works well if you want quick access too.
