Everyone has $6,000 to throw at some fabric tents, right? …Right?
This is why I always recommend doing a colonoscopy prep before a big trip. Dropping 8-10 lbs instantly frees up capacity. Genius, right?
Just a bag of Skittles.
They don’t need room for passengers… probably because they don’t have any friends. At least they’ve got their fancy camping stove.
Payload limits are so overrated… get it? Over-rated? Never mind, I’ll see myself out.
Okay, here’s a serious answer. I have a 3rd gen TRD Off-Road with a 940 lb payload. I’m carrying around 1,000 lbs total. The setup is basic: canopy, roof rack with solar, fridge in the back. MPG is around 17.
Edit: The weight doesn’t impact handling too much, and I installed rear air bags. Sure, the GVWR is a safety guideline, but also a legal thing if you get in an accident.
@Maxwell
I’ve overloaded mine a couple of times, and it handled fine. I think the payload limit is so low because of the drum brakes and soft rear springs.
@Maxwell
Interested in your rear seat delete. I’m thinking about a 2/3 delete for my fridge and battery. Tired of dealing with ice every weekend. Does your solar keep up with charging your battery? I’m clueless about electrical setups, so any advice helps.
Haha, jokes on you! I just installed air springs to level things out.
On a serious note, I work remotely, so I’m often in the woods with no commute. If I had to drive to an office every day, it wouldn’t be practical.
More like Ghostbuster builds.
My 2020 Pro’s payload rating is 1,155 lbs. My setup:
- 80 lbs for a front bumper
- 60 lbs for the winch
- 120 lbs for the cover
- ~500 lbs of gear
- ~330 lbs for me
That leaves me with around 65 lbs. Feels fine to me. I bet I could add more if it was distributed well.
@Ari
Really? Mine says 960 lbs on the sticker.
I’ll double-check. I read online it was 1,155 lbs. Mine didn’t come with running boards.
Hey there, fellow Albertan!
That poor truck.
My Tacoma couldn’t maintain speed uphill with an empty camper shell. Pretty sad.
Zero left.
Same way I handle stepping on the scale… just don’t look!
