Been driving my Tacoma for a year, why am I just finding this out?

Got my '23 Off-Road tuned (seriously, go do it if you haven’t already) and found out something cool about Cruise Control. I’ve always hated the radar cruise control for being too jerky, but I didn’t realize I could just switch to regular cruise! Just hold down the on-off button. Maybe I’m the last to know, but it blew my mind.

I use adaptive cruise daily. It’s great when the roads are clear, but during heavy traffic? It gets frustrating when the brakes keep engaging and disengaging all the time.

Yeah, I gave up on it after mine slammed the brakes when there was one car barely visible ahead of me. Instead of smoothly passing, it’s like, ‘let’s stop in the middle of the freeway!’

@Sable
You know you can tweak how far it starts braking, right?

Tried that, but it still feels way too cautious.

Even on the closest setting, it brakes way too early. I switched it off fast. Feels like it panics at every little thing.

@Luca
Exactly! It’s like it always wants to brake rather than just ease off the gas. Love the idea, but the execution is off.

Happens to me if I’m going a lot faster than the car ahead. Honestly, I just switch to standard cruise in those situations.

@Morgan
Totally. On a busy highway, it’s super annoying. But for long, single-lane drives behind slow cars, it’s perfect.

Yeah, I get the frustration, but you get used to it. One-lane driving is where adaptive cruise really shines.

@Morgan
True, definitely a minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things.

@Luca
Mine keeps about 2-3 car lengths, which is actually pretty safe. Just what you’re supposed to do, anyway.

@Luca
Right? Any time I say I dislike it, people seem to get mad at me, like it’s forbidden to have a different opinion.

Haha, don’t sweat it. Some people just got lucky with how their comment section reacted.

@Luca
Yeah, it’s kind of funny. Not really losing sleep over it though.

@Luca
Did you put an aftermarket grill on or something?

@Luca
My 2020 keeps a super tight following distance on the lowest setting. Weird how it varies from truck to truck.

@Luca
Wait, you can use cruise control without the adaptive feature? How do you do that?

Just hold the cruise control button for a few seconds.

Sometimes, you just gotta drive yourself and not rely on tech.
