Do Tacoma drivers use ECT PWR mode all the time?

Do any of you keep ECT PWR mode on all the time while driving your Tacoma? Just curious how many folks do that.

I do. It’s part of my routine: start the truck, buckle up, hit the ECT button, and go. The transmission feels way more responsive that way :red_car::dash:

Same here :+1:

Wow, I didn’t realize I needed to know this. Today’s the day I’m actually going to start using that button :joy:

I feel you! I’ve had my TRD 4x4 for two weeks now and I’m still figuring out all the features. Definitely giving this a shot today.

For those who might not know, ECT stands for Electronically Controlled Transmission. It tweaks the shift points to keep the RPMs higher for longer, which is really helpful when you’re towing or climbing hills because it stops the transmission from constantly shifting between gears.

When I’m getting on the highway and keeping my speed above 50, I switch on ECT. But around town, I leave it off because it can hold gears too long. I’ve noticed it helps with gear hunting at higher speeds, and actually bumped my highway MPG from 21 to 22. Around town, I lose less than half an MPG, so not a huge deal. Some days I just leave it on all the time, especially after driving another car. Tacoma feels like the parking brake is on without ECT :joy:

I do the same! My commute is mostly highway, so I hit the ramp, turn on ECT, and cruise at 75-80 mph. Once I’m off the highway, I turn it off to avoid the high RPMs in stop-and-go traffic. I’m averaging about 23 MPG on my commute.

I used it all the time until I got a tune. Now I only use it for fun sometimes :sunglasses:

What tune did you get? Did you pay someone to do it or use a tuner and flash it yourself?

I’m not @Charlotte, but I’ve tried a few tuners and I’d recommend OTT. Honestly, paying someone to do it is easier. By the time you buy the software, laptop, and cables, it’s cheaper to just have someone else do it. Plus, my tuner offers free re-flashes.

I got a KDMAX tune and paid $400 for it. There’s a guy who does pop-up tune events and that’s where I got mine done.
