Has anyone stripped the paint off stock rims? Or painted them black… which had better results?

I’ve been thinking about changing the look of my stock rims and was wondering if anyone here has stripped the paint off or painted them black. I’m leaning toward painting them, but I’m curious to know what’s worked better for others. Which method gave the best results? Any tips on what to avoid or what works best? Appreciate any advice!

Had mine powder coated five years ago. Turned out great and still going strong.

Wow. How much does it cost?

Had my girlfriend’s BMW wheels powder coated in Atlanta for $800.

Mine were $500 for the set. I’m sure now they’d be asking at least $750.

I used plastidip on my stock aluminum (or whatever it is) rims. They’ve held up for the last 3 years, though they could use another coat or two now after using a pressure washer on them. It’s super easy to do and cheap, and they look way better now.

You can have them blasted and powder coated.

Or you can have them prepped and painted.

Powder coating will probably last a little bit longer, but properly painted wheels will hold up fine.

Definitely paint over strip.

Not sure which rims you mean but I’ve seen a few that people sprayed over and you can see dots where it’s coming off.

I used to repair and paint wheels for a living, there’s a lot to it, but they will last forever if taken care of properly.

Thought it would be easier to strip it down to bare metal. Looks like I’ll research plastidip and powder coating. Thanks so much.

Powder coat.
