How does the Toyota Tacoma Access Cab compare in terms of pros and cons?

Hey everyone, I’m looking into getting a Toyota Tacoma Access Cab. I’ve got my eye on a 2008 model, but I’m weighing the pros and cons. Anyone here have experience with these? What’s your take on them?

Pros:

You get a 6-foot bed without having a longer wheelbase, which is great.
The rear doors are suicide-style, so you don’t need to walk around them to get into the back seat. It’s also cooler in warmer weather because of the smaller cab space. Plus, it has a nice, truck-like look and is often cheaper when new.

Cons:

The back seat is cramped for adults, so road trips with more than two people can be tough.
Rear windows don’t roll down, and there’s less interior space for carrying stuff.

I personally love my Access Cab. It’s perfect for me and my wife, plus our 30-pound adventure dog🐶

I totally agree with you. I removed the little seats and built a platform for my dog with drawers underneath. It’s worked out great for us!

Hey, I’ve been thinking of doing something similar for my two dogs. They usually fit fine up front, but it gets a bit crowded when my wife joins us. Any chance you could share a pic of your setup?

I see where you’re coming from, but I actually consider the two-person limit on road trips to be a plus. Less hassle for me.

Haha, fair point. It’s all about perspective.

These are spot-on facts. Ultimately, it’s about what fits your lifestyle. I went with a Double Cab because of my larger dog and occasional extra passengers.

I’ve got a 2012 TRD Sport ACLB. Child seats can be a tight fit in the back, especially rear-facing ones.

My '06 model handles child seats fine if you adjust the front seat a bit. It does cut down on legroom up front, but it’s manageable for us since my wife is on the shorter side. The kid loves it.

Interesting. I had issues with a rear-facing seat, but forward-facing worked well. It might be due to the specific car seat model.

Yeah, car seat models vary a lot. We had no problems with ours, a Chicco Reclinesure.

Graco seats can be bulkier, which might explain the issue. Chicco seems to be a better fit for us, though that’s just my opinion.

I’ve had several Tacoma models, including a 2016 Access Cab. I liked the 4-door models, but the Access Cab offers a good balance of cargo space without being too big. If you need more room for people, go for the Double Cab. Otherwise, the Access Cab is a great choice overall.

Totally agree with you!.One of the best features is not having to keep walking around the back door. :door:

Yeah, that’s been my experience too. It’s one of the things I really appreciate about the Access Cab.
