So I found a really good marketplace deal for some 285/70/17 KO2’s today. I have a 2017 TRD Sport on the stock 17-inch wheels. How bad do you think the rubbing will be with everything still stock? I don’t do any off-roading at the moment, but I plan to later. Eventually, I’ll upgrade the suspension, but I just don’t have time for that right now.
Your cab mount might rub. Do you have any aftermarket UCAs or a lift? The offset of your wheels is important when fitting bigger tires. The stock TRD Sport wheels have a positive offset, so you might rub your stock UCAs until you switch to a wheel with zero or negative offset.

Nah, nothing aftermarket right now, everything’s stock. I’m just trying to figure out if the rubbing will make it undriveable or if it’s just something minor I can deal with.

You’re probably going to have a rough time reversing or going uphill. If you want bigger tires on stock suspension, I’d recommend going for something skinnier like 255/80/17.

Honestly, I don’t drive uphill much, and I live in suburban SoCal. I don’t mind a little rubbing as long as it doesn’t make the truck undriveable. I’m also going on a 500-mile trip in a couple of weeks. Think I’ll be fine for that? It’s mostly flat highway with minimal off-roading.
@NomadNerd
It’s more about how the tires flex and your alignment when you hit bumps. You should get the tires installed and see how they fit. If you want more detailed advice, Tacomaworld.com has a lot of threads with experience on how to fit bigger tires.

Thanks! I’m taking them to my guy tomorrow. I’ll see how they fit then. Appreciate all the info, man. Stay safe

Of course, man. As a fellow taco owner who’s gone through getting my 35s to fit, I hope everything works out for you!!
