Is my computer failing right out of the box?

QUESTION / OPINIONS / FEEDBACK:

I just got a 2024 TRD Sport last Friday, and now it has 108 miles on it. Here are the issues I noticed over the first weekend:

  • Window controls sometimes don’t work.

  • Head unit resets when I make a turn.

  • Qi wireless charger keeps resetting.

I dropped the truck off at the dealer on Tuesday. They kept it until Thursday night and said they couldn’t find any issues or duplicate the problems.

(Yes, I expected them to be intermittent issues, so I’m letting this one slide for now.)

TODAY (Friday), I went to start the truck and the battery was completely dead. There was a clicking noise when trying to start it. I had to use a Jump-Box to get it going. Once I started it, all the settings were reset. Everything seemed fine when I shut it off last night.

What do you think is going on? Could it be a computer issue or something with the CAN bus?

What would cause all of these problems?

I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice. Thanks in advance!

Maybe there’s a bad ground, but I’d still go back to the dealer.

I hadn’t thought about a bad ground… Thanks for that idea. I’ll bring it up to the technicians when I take it back tomorrow.

You could try recording your drives with a camera. That way, even if they can’t recreate the problems in the shop, you have proof to show them.

Yes, exactly!

UPDATE: I’m taking the truck back to the dealer tomorrow morning. I won’t take it back until they fix it (or at least claim they’ve fixed it in writing).

They’ll probably just let it sit on the lot for weeks without fixing anything. Good luck.

How long does the ‘lemon law’ last in your state? It seems like they might be waiting for that time to pass. If you can, return the truck and go somewhere else.

Unfortunately, I’m in Guam, and the ‘Lemon Law’ doesn’t apply here. Guam is a US Territory, not a state…

That’s crazy for a new truck! Hopefully, Toyota helps you out and fixes the truck. It’s only been 100 miles, so it’s really frustrating when things keep breaking down.

It’s a long shot, but maybe you have a pinched wire somewhere. My dad had similar electrical issues in his truck that the dealer couldn’t find, and it turned out to be a pinched wire.

This happened to me once. I accidentally turned off the vehicle while it wasn’t in Park and didn’t notice it beeping. The battery drained. Also, make sure your alternator is charging the battery. It needs to run for 30 minutes to 1 hour each week to keep it properly charged.

This sounds like a bad battery to me.

Yeah, it’s brand new. I’d let the dealer handle it.
