Is the 2024 Tacoma’s MPG rating of 19/24/21 realistic for daily driving? It’s for the 2.4-liter engine with 278 horsepower and 317 torque. There’s also the 2.4-liter turbo version with 228 horsepower and 243 torque, which is rated at 20 city, 26 highway, and 23 combined. Hybrid MPG wasn’t announced yet. What are your thoughts?
That’s pretty close to what my 3rd Gen gets .
My 3rd gen is only getting around 13 MPG, man .
Are you running 35s with a turbo? That’s wild .
I’ve got a bunch of extra weight, bigger tires, and some mods that mess with the aerodynamics, so yeah, it takes a toll.
I’m curious what changes caused that much of a drop in MPG?
Honestly, the front bumper, roof rack, and tires have had the biggest impact. Add in the extra weight from the rear bumper with a full-sized spare, sliders, and skids, and it doesn’t help. I don’t drive aggressively, but I’m not exactly taking it easy either.
It’s probably your driving style, bro! I don’t have bigger tires, but I do have a bed rack with some gear. Even with that and all our camping stuff, I’m still getting way better than 13 MPG. I just did a trip to Bryce Canyon and back, and I averaged around 18-19 MPG.
I’m running a 6-speed with 33s and a cap, and I’m getting around 19-20 MPG around town. My Jeep actually gets better MPG than my Tacoma, and it’s more capable.
Yeah, it’s tough. The aerodynamics aren’t helping, plus I’m on highways where the speed limit is 75. At 75-80 mph, I’m often in 4th gear at 3200 RPM on any incline.
Maybe it’s time to drive like your grandma for a change .
I’ve got a steel bumper, a lift, and 33s, but I’m still managing 18-19 MPG. I could probably squeeze out more if I tried on longer trips.
I drive pretty aggressively at around 80 mph, and I’m still getting at least 20 MPG. If you’re only getting 13, something’s off. No amount of mods should make your MPG drop that much.
I’ve got mine supercharged and run it with ECT on all the time. The lowest I see is 15 MPG, but I’m usually in the 17-20 range. I’m guessing it comes down to the extra weight.
