Just got a 2005 inline 4. What should I do before starting it?

Picked up a 2005 Tacoma 2-door, inline-4, manual, 4x4 with 155k miles.

Bought it from the first owner for a solid price and had it towed home. The thing is, it’s been sitting for five years. What should I check before trying to start it?

Here’s what I’m thinking so far:

  • Change oil and oil filter
  • New intake filter
  • New battery
  • Drain old gas and replace the fuel filter
  • Check the belt
  • Change front & rear differential fluid
  • Replace transfer case fluid

Once it’s running:

  • Flush radiator fluid
  • Replace thermostat
  • Swap out spark plugs

Anything else I should add?

I wouldn’t stress too much about the oil or filters before starting it. Just check the levels and see if it fires up. Old oil won’t hurt it at idle.
