First Taco and first truck, upgraded from a 99 Mercedes c230 that I’ve had for 10 years. She’s a 2016 which I know some people warn about but this fit my budget best.
114k miles SR5 4x4 and the previous owner put in a leveling kit, sound system, remote start, bed cover, grill, and side steps.
Looks great! That’s a solid truck. I’ve got a 2016 SR5 4WD 4-cylinder, and it’s at 243,000 miles now. Ran perfectly until recently when a piece of the shift fork broke off and put a hole in the transmission housing. Had to replace that and a worn-out clutch.
Everyone here told me to keep it running, so I got it all fixed up!
Enjoy your Tacoma! Hope you get to 300K or 400K miles with no major issues.
@Hollis
That’s awesome! Hope yours keeps going for another 243K without any big problems! Mine’s in good shape, only issue is a small oil pan leak, but that should be an easy fix. Hoping it lasts me a long time!

I traded in my 2000 CLK 430 V8 for a brand-new ‘23 Tacoma Pro. It’s way slower than my old car, but I’m really happy with the switch.
Those old Mercedes were great! I did almost all the repairs myself even though I’m not a mechanic. I’ve heard the newer ones are a nightmare to work on. Hope you enjoy your new Tacoma!
@Jory
Yeah, my Mercedes was fun but stressful. It had this weird issue where it wouldn’t start again for 45 minutes after driving, and no mechanic could figure it out. When we found out we were expecting a baby, I knew I had to get something more reliable.
Not sure I’d ever buy another Mercedes. They’re nice, but I care more about reliability now. Plus, we’re looking at getting a vacation place, and I need something that can handle any kind of weather. I trust the Tacoma to do that.
Took me a bit to adjust to the size difference, but I’m really happy with my decision. Hope you enjoy yours too!
My 2016 has 93K miles and has been running great. Took me about 50K miles to really get used to the way the powerband, gearing, and shift points work (3.5V6, 6-speed auto). But once I got the hang of it, it’s been solid. Manual mode works well, plenty of power, though the gas mileage isn’t amazing.
