Need help with 3RZN73 Tacoma engine

I recently bought a 1996 Tacoma regular cab 4x4 because it was in excellent condition, but it needed a new engine. I planned to have my mechanic find and install another engine, thinking it would be easy since it has a Toyota 4-cylinder engine. However, the truck has a rare locked-up 3RZN73 engine, and I can only find 3RZFE engines, not the 3RZN73.

I noticed that the 1996 models also used the 22R engine. My question is, can the 22R be installed in my truck without any issues or CPU problems? I wouldn’t mind using the 22R since I have had other trucks with that engine. It has slightly less horsepower than the 3RZ but would be adequate for my needs.

Howdy pals listen to this.reach out to a Toyota dealership or a mechanic who specializes in Toyotas. They may be able to provide information about the 3RZ-N73 engine, even if they haven’t encountered it previously.
