Q: Can I replace my leaf pack without swapping out the shocks?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to swap my leaf pack for the Old Man Emu pack. I thought about adding airbags or an AAL but after seeing how cheap and easy it is to replace the entire pack, I’m leaning that way.

This will add about 2" to the rear, which works for me because I was planning to eventually raise the truck 2-3" and add 33” tires when I replace them.

For now, can I just swap the leafs and keep the stock OR shocks on the back?

I don’t mind a little rake, so I’m okay with the back being higher. I also carry a fair amount of weight, mainly why I want to do this.

The truck is my daily driver but also does a lot of off-roading, camping, and towing a small kayak trailer. During the summer, I usually have a 200# tent on top.

Ideally, you’d want longer shocks or your down travel will be limited by the stock ones. If you don’t plan on taking it off-road, this might not be a huge issue. But rear shocks are easy to swap and not that expensive, so it might be worth upgrading them when you’re already working on the truck.

@Kerr
Looks like I’ll be researching shocks then! If you have any suggestions, let me know.

I’m leaning towards something with reservoirs.
