hey everyone, i just bought my first tacoma and i’m new to doing maintenance on vehicles. i’ve only ever done basic stuff like oil changes, tire rotations, and wiper blades. i got a 2017 sr5 v6 3.5l and noticed when i turn the wheel to the driver’s side, i hear a clicking noise. it only clicks once per turn and i have no clue where it’s coming from. not much info, i know, but has anyone dealt with this before? any help would be awesome!
could be a cv joint going bad. does it happen only when turning or also when driving straight?

only when turning. if it was a cv joint, would it be constant clicking or just once?

usually more of a repeated clicking if it’s the cv joint, especially on sharp turns. might be worth checking your lug nuts too, sometimes loose ones make weird noises.
idk if this helps but i had a similar noise and it ended up being my brake dust shield rubbing the rotor. quick fix!

huh, never thought about that. how did you fix it?

just bent it back slightly with my hand. takes like 2 secs if that’s the issue.
are you on aftermarket wheels or stock? sometimes aftermarket wheels rub slightly on the knuckle or control arm when turning full lock.

still on stock wheels. would it still be an issue?

probably not in that case, but i’d check for any marks or wear spots near the wheel well just to be sure.
sounds kinda like a loose tie rod or ball joint. worth checking before it gets worse.

makes sense. any easy way to check that without taking it to a shop?

jack up the front end, grab the wheel at 3 and 9 o’clock and wiggle it. if you feel play, something’s loose.
