Ready to upgrade from a 2nd to a 3rd generation vehicle?

Goodbye 2nd generation, hello 3rd generation.!
Thinking about moving from a 2nd to a 3rd generation vehicle?

I had to say goodbye to my reliable 2nd generation, which turned unreliable last week. I decided to modernize and put a deposit on a Tesla Y with a 1.99% interest rate. However, on my way to the Tesla dealership, I couldn’t resist stopping by a Toyota dealership to check out Tacomas one last time. I was irresistibly drawn to a Tacoma that caught my eye, and I ended up getting it for $38k.

I’m absolutely in love with it. There’s something about Tacomas that makes you feel like a kid again, playing with toy trucks in the dirt.

Wow, your 2nd gen gave out? What happened? :sleepy:

My rack and pinion and air conditioner compressor both failed in the same month, leading to a repair bill over $4,000. It didn’t technically die, but I couldn’t justify spending that much on repairs after more than 240,000 miles.

Wow, that’s wild! $4,000? I would have handled that myself.

For context, I’m currently working on my 2nd gen engine, installing oversized pistons and replacing the head gasket, along with a new water pump and a complete cooling system overhaul.

But congratulations on the 3rd gen! It’s known for being really reliable, and some people actually prefer it over the Tesla. I think you made a great choice.

Wow, that’s tough. Rack and pinion issues seem to be common with these trucks. I’ve had success using AT-205 to recondition the seals. I just can’t let go of my 2nd gen, it’s been too reliable to part with, haha. Given the cost of a new one, I’d rather rebuild it when needed. Enjoy your new truck, and I hope you can keep the 2nd gen and maybe fix it up someday😄

That’s a sharp-looking Tacoma.

Red isn’t usually my top choice, but this one looks fantastic.

I have a 2022 TRD Pro with a manual transmission, and I absolutely love it . I’m hoping to get 200,000 miles out of mine.
