Softopper… thoughts?

Hey y’all!

Got a 2018 that I finally paid off  Feels great to spoil the ride, especially since I’m camping more lately. I saw a Softopper on the road and I’m considering it. What are y’all’s experiences with it?

Any major downsides? I really like how it seems easy to set up and take down (at least compared to a hard top).

Thanks in advance and safe rides to everyone!

Do it. Just get it. You won’t regret it.

Customer service mentioned you need to fold it down before going through an automatic car wash. Other than that, no issues with snow, wind, etc. I’m thinking of swapping my Backflip MX4 for a Softopper myself.

You can move the pin down one hole if needed. It made installation easier for me, no problems since.

I’m looking at getting one for my 2023 Access Cab. I love how the black truck with the tan Softopper looks. The easy on and off is a huge plus. My only concern is the bottom of the back window—it either flaps around or you have to stick Velcro to the tailgate paint. Not sure if this has changed, but I’m not thrilled with either option.

Bought one but couldn’t install it in 50° weather. I brought it inside to warm up, but it stayed tight even after leaving it in the sun. Overall, I was really unimpressed by how flimsy it felt.

Some poles had to be swaged back to fit properly. It relies on tiny brackets on the sides, which bent during installation even after adjusting the position. I also bent the bed rails trying to stretch the fabric.

Most folks say it installs better on a hot day. But for me, it didn’t work out.

Thanks for the heads-up! I’m in a hot area, so loosening it should be easy, but I’m more concerned about sun damage. That’s why I like the idea of being able to fold it away.

Good luck! Most people seem happy with theirs. I’ve thought about giving it another shot, but I just don’t have a real need for it right now.
