Got a 2023 SR 4x4 with 21k miles.
Has anyone else dealt with this weird speedometer issue? It jumps around like a ticking clock hand. Super distracting when driving.
Took it to Toyota, and they told me it’s a gauge cluster problem. But what worries me is they admitted they’ve never seen it before and had to Google it to come up with an answer. That doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.
What makes me think it’s more than just the gauge cluster is that the problem comes and goes. Sometimes it doesn’t happen at all. Other times, it happens only at certain RPMs. Sometimes it happens no matter the speed or RPM. It also changes in intensity—sometimes small jumps, sometimes big ones. Occasionally, it jumps in perfect 5mph increments, but other times it’s completely random.
Even weirder, I swear the truck drives differently when the speedometer acts up. Shifting feels slow and rough, acceleration gets choppy, and it seems to hang in gear when I brake. I can even tell when the speedo is glitching without looking at it, just by how the truck feels.
I’ve owned a bunch of cars and trucks, but I’ve never seen anything like this. I’m really hoping Toyota figures it out before my warranty runs out.
Here’s a video showing what it does:
