Got the 4x4 transmission installed today, but progress hit a small snag when I cut my finger while working on it. While removing the Tacoma transfer case, a bolt snapped in the extension housing. Luckily, I had a spare, so I swapped it out. I’m letting the gasket maker set overnight and plan to install the transmission tomorrow. If all goes well, I should have another update on Saturday when the truck is ready to drive.

What year is your Tacoma? Why did you need to replace the transfer case in the first place?
It’s a 2020. When I started the swap, I didn’t realize I’d need to replace the transmission because the output shaft is 6 inches longer. The transmission I got came with a Tacoma transfer case, but I’m swapping it out for an FJ Cruiser transfer case to avoid dealing with the electronics. I’m selling the Tacoma transfer case once I’m done.
Are you seriously converting a 2WD Tacoma into a 4x4? I’ve been wanting to do that with my 2nd gen, but I don’t have the skills. Paying someone to do it feels way too expensive.
