Why isn’t the Prerunner 4WD because it’s a truck? Every truck need to have four wheel drive.
It’s been argued by many that not everyone would require 4WD. In addition to being able to move stuff if needed, city dwellers like me with my 2011 Prerunner also find Tacomas to be enjoyable to drive. Additionally saved on insurance because 4x4 trucks will result in higher premiums. I love driving a truck, but I’m not one for trails, so that’s just not me. Thus, it serves a purpose. The fact that some city dwellers drive 4x4s with street tires does amuse me. However, I suppose the 4x4 philosophy is similar to that of weapons or condoms: It’s better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them.
Certainly! A prerunner is a vehicle that pre-runs an off-road racecourse. Racers generally have a separate vehicle, similar in design to their race car, that they use to explore the track before the race. This helps them to become acquainted with the different terrain, record GPS data, and ensure a safer race.
My 2007 PreRunner is primarily utilized for traveling on public roads and doing construction work. For many reasons, I specifically did not want a 4x4.
The relatively higher ground clearance is beneficial for job areas with rougher terrain, and the additional height facilitates the loading and unloading of specific products.
Having 4WD would lessen the truck’s ability to pull and haul, which are additional uses for it. It also has somewhat better gas mileage.
Why would someone pay extra for a truck that doesn’t fulfill their needs when form must come first? In actuality, a lot of trucks can get by without 4WD.
@Lilly It’s interesting; I still have a lot to learn. I’m grateful that you shared!
Prerunners are built for speed, not off-roading. They typically have two-wheel drive for better performance on flat desert terrain.
Hi, Cruz. It refers to a vehicle used for pre-running an off-road racecourse. Most racers have a separate vehicle, identical in design to their race vehicle, that they use to explore the track before the race.
