I know there are probably lots of posts like this, but I still wanted to get thoughts from the forum on this 2005 Gen 2 truck I’m looking at. It wouldn’t be my daily ride, just something for short trips like going to the hardware store or trailheads. It’s stock and has high miles, but it seems pretty clean. What do you think?
It’s not bad for a truck that old, but the real question is how the underside looks.

Yeah, that’s the first thing I’ll check when I inspect it.
The price seems fair, but maybe try to negotiate down to $8K if possible. If the history report is clean and it’s been well-maintained, you should be good. Are you planning to pay cash or finance it?
It’s nice that it comes with the bed cover and wind deflectors. That shows the previous owner probably took care of it. And honestly, I like the hood scoop, even if it’s just for looks. Gives it a bold front-end style.
@Bryn
I’ll be paying cash. I like the hood scoop too. I’ll see if they’re willing to lower the price, though I doubt they’ll go as low as $8K. They did send me photos of the frame, and it looks clean. I’m also planning to call the Toyota dealership to check on any past work done.
The price looks decent, but with an '05 V6, you should check if the head gasket has been inspected or replaced. They had issues from the factory and were only fixed halfway through the '06 model year.

That’s a good point. There’s also an '07 nearby with 170K miles for $2K more. Maybe I should look into that one too, though it doesn’t have the hood scoop and isn’t black, which I like more.
