What are the benefits of having a truck cap for your Toyota Tacoma? Do any of you have a truck cap? I would love to hear your thoughts on it
Truck Cap Opinions
I’m thinking about getting a truck cap but I need some help figuring out the pros and cons of different types. I’m currently in California but have lived in Colorado and Montana my whole life, so I need something that can handle wet winter conditions and mountain driving. I’ll be traveling between Colorado and California frequently for the next couple of years while my girlfriend finishes grad school, and I want something durable. Security is also important since I’ll likely have valuables in the bed. What cap do you have and what do you like or dislike about it? Can you share a picture too?
I have a Softopper. It’s lightweight, looks great, and is pretty affordable. It keeps rain and prying eyes off my stuff in the back and is easy to retract when I need extra height. It looks super cool in safari mode too
I totally agree. I love that I can fold it back to throw bikes over the tailgate or help friends move because I’ve got a truck The only caps I’d consider switching to would be a camper like GoFast or something more luxurious like a 4wheel camper
I had a Leer on my old Chevy for years and it worked great. The only issue was having to replace the pistons on the rear window after a decade. Now, I’ve got a Softopper for my Tacoma because I like the flexibility. I thought about getting a fiberglass cap and setting up a lift system to take it on and off, but the Softopper fits my current needs
I have a GFC Topper on my 2018 Offroad. What sold me was the locking side panels, 360-degree access, and the white roof panel. I also saw a video showing off its structural integrity with a full truckload on top
My only complaints are that the locks can stick sometimes, but a quick spray of WD-40 usually fixes that. The price and lead times are a bit rough, but considering the quality and customer support, it’s worth it.
