What Are the Benefits of Installing 255/85R16 Tires on a Toyota Tacoma?

255/85/16s Installed

I have a 2020 TRD OR with the original suspension. A slow leak in one of my factory tires gave me the perfect reason to upgrade. I’m now using 255/85/16 Cooper St Maxx tires and I’m really pleased with their appearance and performance. The extra ground clearance is fantastic; it definitely feels taller when getting in and out.

Is there any rubbing?

I haven’t noticed any rubbing at all. I did a lot of research on Tacoma World and other forums before making this choice. Everything I found suggested it would be close but there’s no rubbing.

When fully cranked and going over a bump, I get a slight rub, but nothing damaging has happened for me yet.

I have the exact same setup on my 2017 OR with stock suspension and there’s no rubbing at all.

Hey, it’s been two years since you installed the 255/85/r16 Cooper S/T MAXX combo, right? Are you still using it? How has it been for you? I’m considering this exact setup myself. Thanks!

That’s awesome I have the older version of your truck, a first-gen double cab I’m planning to switch to 255s once my current tires wear out. It looks great

Skinny tires are the way to go They look awesome and are really practical for nearly all off-road situations

I totally agree I’m excited to see how they perform off-road

I drove my truck through snow up to the doors with these tires and had to stop only because the slope was steep and I couldn’t safely continue. Haha I ended up backing up a mile to turn around but it was a lot of fun
