What are the different Tacoma trim levels and their features?

I’m thinking about getting my first truck and trying to figure out all the different Tacoma trim levels and their features is driving me a bit crazy. There are so many options: TRD, off-road, sport, 2WD, 4WD, and more, and it’s tough to find clear descriptions online. Is there a comprehensive write-up or guide out there that explains all these different trims and what each one offers?

Here’s a breakdown of the Tacoma trims @DolphGabbana:

  • SR: This is the base model with manual cloth seats. It includes features like CarPlay and Safety Sense. You can choose between a 2.7L 4-cylinder or a 3.5L V6 engine, and it’s available in extended or double cab with automatic transmission only. It offers both 2WD and 4WD options.

  • SR5: This trim adds a few more features while keeping the same engine and cab options as the SR.

  • TRD Sport: This model comes with additional interior features like push-button start and accents. It has a sport-tuned suspension for better street performance and is available in extended or double cab with either 2WD or 4WD. You can choose between automatic or manual transmission.

  • TRD Off-Road: This is a popular choice, featuring the same upgraded interior as the TRD Sport, but with off-road enhancements like Bilstein shocks and off-road tires. It includes locking rear differentials and crawl control. Available in extended or double cab with either 2WD or 4WD and manual or automatic transmission.

  • Limited: This is the luxury trim with a comprehensive list of features. It retains the same suspension as the SR and SR5 and comes in double cab with automatic transmission only.

  • TRD Pro: This is the top off-road trim, featuring a 1-inch leveling kit, even more robust shocks and suspension, and all the off-road features of the TRD Off-Road. It also includes exclusive colors and badging. Available in double cab only with 4WD, and you can choose between automatic or manual transmission.

Thanks for the info. Just to clarify, do the trims build on each other? For example, does the Limited trim include all the features of the TRD Off-Road plus additional perks, or can you only choose between Limited + Sport or Limited + Off-Road?

Also, what’s the general preference between manual and automatic transmissions? Is there a consensus that an automatic is good enough for off-road driving?

Lastly, besides the extra storage, are there any pros or cons to the extended cab? Does the longer wheelbase affect ground clearance or anything else?

The Toyota website details every feature of each trim level, so why not go directly to the source for the most accurate information?

This really clears things up and makes it easier for me to grasp. At least that’s how I see it, :joy:.

Are you planning to use it for serious off-roading, or will it mostly be for daily driving? Do you want the option of 4WD in case you ever need it? Are features like leather seats and push-button start important to you? Would you need a rear lock for any reason?

It really depends on how you plan to use the truck. If you’re thinking about heavy off-roading, you might want to look into trims like the TRD Off-Road or TRD Pro, which come with features specifically designed for that purpose. If it’s mostly for daily driving, the SR5 or Limited trims could be more suitable. Consider if you need 4WD for occasional use or if leather seats and push-button start are important to you. And if you think a rear lock would be useful, the TRD Off-Road has that feature. You can find a detailed comparison of all the trims and their features here: Toyota Tacoma Trim Levels.
