What are the implications of the 2024 Tacoma Access Cab only having two doors?

What do you think about the 2024 Tacoma Access Cab having just two doors? I just learned that they’re getting rid of the suicide doors. The reasons I see online are that it’s “cheaper” (lol) and “safer.” Am I the only one who thinks this is a silly move?

I’ve got a second-gen Access Cab, and losing those rear doors would be a deal-breaker for me. I love the truck, and having that extra space is super useful.

For me, the deal-breaker is that they’re only going to be 2WD. Looks like I’ll have to switch to the crew cab option. Ugh.

Seriously? That’s the first I’m hearing about that. It feels like they’re just turning the Access Cab into a fleet truck now.

To be fair, that’s for the Prerunner model, which has always been 2WD. So far, there hasn’t been any news about the Access Cab being offered in anything other than the Prerunner and the SR. Plus, the Prerunner doesn’t even have a back seat; it’s just a storage area.

Who doesn’t love the hassle of moving their seat every time to lift something out of the Access Cab? I think the first ten chiropractic visits are covered under Toyotacare :joy:.

Haha, I really don’t get why they’re taking out the seats for more storage while making it harder to get in. They could’ve at least kept one side that opens.

Quick update: I saw in ToyotaJeff’s video review that the Xtracab (SR) does have a 4WD option.

Man, my fleet truck’s driver-side access door has been broken since day four. I know what’s wrong, but I’m pretty sure my company won’t fix it. For the last ten months, I’ve been climbing over the passenger side to grab stuff. I know what part I need, but I’m not spending my time and money on it.

You should fix it while you’re on the clock. That’s what I’d do.

If I was getting paid by the hour, I totally would. But since I’m on a salary with commission, the clock doesn’t really matter anymore.

I guess it depends on how much you value your time. If you’re climbing over stuff every day to grab things, that adds up, unless you don’t have to do it often.

I work in pest control, and the only things I can keep in the cab with me are unregulated products, so it’s just glue boards and snap traps. I usually just grab whatever I need before I get out, unless I forget.
