What are the pros and cons of choosing a soft topper for a Toyota Tacoma?

Hey y’all? I’m thinking about getting a camper shell for my Tacoma, but I’m leaning towards a soft topper. Anyone who owns one want to share their thoughts on the fit, quality, and durability?

I’ve had my Softopper for 2 years, and honestly, the only downside is the visibility. Other than that, it’s been fantastic

Same here. Visibility isn’t great, but everything else about it is awesome. :+1:

I’m loving mine. Got it used for $250, and I’ve got no complaints. It’s held up against snow, rain, and wind like a champ. Plus, the fact that it’s removable is a huge bonus compared to a hard top, and it’s super easy to install too.

I’m interested in this as well. I’ve got an SR5 and could use some insight

The two issues I’ve seen with mine (and others have mentioned) are that the plastic clasps can break over time. They’re used to roll up the canvas and tie it to the sides, but you can easily fix it with a metal S-link. The second issue is the acrylic windows, if you roll them up in cold weather, they can crack or get foggy. Luckily, Softopper offers replacement parts. But honestly, I’ve had no cracks living in California!

The setup and breakdown are super fast too, which is great if you want to switch between an open truck bed and the topper quickly. I can install mine in about 15 minutes on my own. :muscle:

Wow, that’s really helpful! Thanks for the tip about the clasps.

No issues with mine. I’m in Canada, and it’s held up well through winter and some off-roading :muscle:

Love mine. No leaks, super durable, and way cheaper than a hard shell. Plus, it just looks cooler :sunglasses:
