What has your experience been with Toyota Tacomas that have over 200,000 miles? I’m interested in hearing about the 4.0L V6 engine (1GR-FE). I read that Toyota suggests the engine is only good for 200k and can’t be rebuilt due to its block construction. If you have high mileage, let me know, or if you had to replace it, share why. Thanks a lot
By the way, I also posted this in the 4Runner sub. I’m trying to find the Toyota website link that explains this engine’s lifespan. It just seems odd to me that a Toyota engine would have a 200k lifespan when older engines have proven otherwise. It feels like Toyota might be covering themselves, but I’m not entirely sure.
I have around 260k miles on my 07 Prerunner. I’ve got a valve cover leak, but it’s running great otherwise. Just ignore those dash lights
You could grab a valve cover gasket for about $10-15, and it’s super easy to replace
I already have an OEM gasket, just haven’t found the time to do it. It seems like it might be easier to replace than the valve cover gasket on my 3.4 Taco.
I just replaced mine, and it’s pretty much like changing any other valve cover gasket. You usually have to take off more than you expect. While I had it apart, I also got my injectors cleaned professionally.
I have an ultrasonic cleaner for my reloading stuff, so I could easily drop the injectors in there too. But I think places that clean injectors usually use an ultrasonic cleaner designed for that, and I don’t have a way to run them.
I’m really not looking forward to refreshing my 95 because of all this.
Just swap them out for new ones. I don’t get why people try to “clean” them when they have over 150k miles
150k is nothing for a 3.4, and it seems to be the same for most 4.0s. Unless you thought I was going to reuse the factory gaskets? Definitely not, I’ve got new OEM gaskets on the shelf. If I’m spending 6-8 hours on it, I wouldn’t use an old gasket
I remember those annoying half-moon plugs in the back that you had to RTV into the head. What a silly design
