What modifications do you have planned for your 2nd gen Tacoma?

I’ve only had my truck for about a week, so I haven’t done much yet. I did order WeatherTech floor protectors, and next, I might add cruise control and intermittent wipers. A backup camera would be nice but probably too pricey. Fog lights could be a good addition too.

Sounds like you went with the 5 Lug model too That’s awesome I really love mine. Those WeatherTech mats were my first purchase as well. Do you think it would have been better to just get the next trim level that includes those features instead of adding them later?

Not really It wouldn’t have saved me much. For cruise control, I would need to switch to an access cab and pay for an option package, which would have added around $4K. I’ve read that the cruise control stalk is under $150 from Toyota, and it’s pretty much plug-and-play.

I just got a new Taco too, and the WeatherTechs were the first thing I bought. We went snowboarding right after, and they really saved my carpet when everything got muddy.

Haha, WeatherTech was my first buy as well I got the window deflectors along with the floor mats, and they’ve been great. After that, I picked up an Extang trifecta box cover, which I love. Next on my list is a pop&lock for the tailgate.

I’ve been debating getting a cover for the bed since before I got the truck. It would provide waterproof storage, but I’m concerned about losing functionality. I have mountain bikes and a hitch bike rack, and having a cover makes it tricky to fit the bikes in the bed.

I felt the same way at first, but the Extang can be removed in just five minutes. Plus, it works with the box rail system. I can show you how it uses the rail system. The quick-release handles are by the tailgate, and the ones near the cab just need to be spun to remove. Once the brackets are set, I can take it off and put it back on in under 10 minutes.

Is your cover hard or soft? I know Extang has one that’s sturdy enough to hold weight on top. I was thinking about one that could support bikes sitting on it with a front fork mount and something to lock the rear tires.

Mine’s just a soft one, so I can’t really help you with that.

I tried one of those at the dealership It seemed neat but took up about 6-8 inches of bed space, which is a lot when you have a short bed. I’m torn on whether I really need waterproof storage. Back in Colorado, it wasn’t a big deal, but now in Seattle, it seems like it could come in handy while camping.

Yeah, I get that The short bed really limits your options in many ways.
