What does SR5 mean Toyota?

Hey everyone, I am just getting started with Tacomas and I have a question! I picked up a 2008 access cab, and something seems a little off. It has TRD OR badges, but also SR5 on the back. Being new to Tacomas, I am not sure what that means. Can anyone help me figure out which trim level it actually is?

Hey all! New Tacoma owner here. My truck has both TRD OR and SR5 badges, which seems weird. Found out online it probably shouldn’t. Maybe the badges are fake or the truck is just an SR5 with some TRD OR parts.

To figure it out, I can check the VIN for the real trim, look for specific SR5 or TRD OR features, or ask a mechanic. No matter what, it’s a cool truck and I’ll figure it out!

If there is an RR DIFF LOCK button on the left side of the dash, it is the simplest method to identify it.

SR5 - No button

There is a TRD OR button.

Although I don’t know much about second generations, I believe that people may be mistaking terminology for both.

First generation vehicles include SR5 as a trim level and TRD denoting the rear locker, etc. In the first generation, TRDs most likely carried SR5 badges.

In second gens, I assume it’s the same.

Third generation TRD (offroad or pro) is now a trim level, hence SR5 badges are no longer awarded to them.

I think the SR5 is applicable to more Toyota cars than only the Tacoma. Since the 1970s, the SR5 badge has existed. It might represent “Sport Rally 5 Speed.” Older Celica and Corolla SR5 models exist. Modified: Spelling of Corolla

SR5 means poor. Just not as poor as one who buys an SR.

Sport means mall crawler and they embrace it.

OR means mall crawler and they pretend to off road (this is my category)

PRO means mall crawler and they wanted to spend even more money on Shit they won’t use. (And probably still upgrade with aftermarket parts)
