What should I look out for when buying a used 2013 Toyota Tacoma?

What should I watch out for when buying a used 2013 Toyota Tacoma? I found one with 130,000 miles at a decent price and I’m paying cash. Any specific issues with this year or generation I should be aware of? I currently drive a 2012 Scion xB which has been great, but I need a truck now. Any advice or tips would be appreciated guys.

If you’re north of the rust belt, make sure to inspect the frame thoroughly. I have the same year and mileage, and this generation is pretty solid. The main issue to watch out for is frame rust.

Even if you’re not in a rust-prone area, checking for rust is always a good idea. It can save you a lot of trouble down the road.

Absolutely. The 2nd Gen Tacomas had a recall for rust issues on the frame. Check the frame near the front catalytic converters and under the seats for holes bigger than a dime. If it’s rusty or looks neglected, the previous owner might not have kept up with maintenance.

If it’s a manual transmission, listen for a squeal when you release the clutch. The release bearing was known to crack and squeal in this model.

What’s the asking price? I just bought a 2013 Tacoma for $25k with 66,000 miles.
