When to Use 4H/4L in My New Truck

Before you roast me, I’ve never owned a truck before until now. Every vehicle I’ve owned has either been FWD or AWD, so I’ve never had to shift a vehicle into 4H/4L.

With that being said, when is it appropriate to use 4H/4L? I’ve heard various things, such as only using it if you are off-roading or if there are 3+ inches of snow on the road. I’ve also heard that it should only be used when driving in a straight line and never on pavement.

Can anyone provide tips and advice on this? I would greatly appreciate it!

Hello @Mitchelle, It is recommended to use 4H when there is a moderate amount of snow and you can still drive at normal speeds. But when you are driving in deep snow or on very slippery roads at a slow speed, 4L will help you avoid getting stuck.
