Who drives with ECT PWR on all the time in their Toyota Tacoma?

Hey guys, quick question for all you Toyota Tacoma drivers out there: how many of you keep ECT PWR on all the time? Do you find it makes a noticeable difference in your driving experience, or is it more of a preference thing? Curious to hear your thoughts.

Yeah, I always do. Once I start the truck, buckle up, hit the ECT button, and I’m off. It really improves the responsiveness of the transmission that way.

When I’m getting onto the freeway (maintaining speeds above 50 mph), I switch on ECT. For city driving, I keep it off. It prevents the transmission from constantly shifting and holds the gear longer, which avoids abrupt downshifts and tire chirps at higher speeds. However, in city traffic, it tends to keep the revs higher between stoplights.

On the highway, using ECT bumped my average mpg from 21 to 22, while in city driving, it decreased by less than 0.5 mpg in my informal tests. Some days I leave it on constantly, especially after driving another vehicle, because the Tacoma feels sluggish otherwise, almost like it’s dragging with the parking brake engaged.
