I have seen conflicting information online about whether they can damage the frame over time. Has anyone experienced any issues with this? Is it not recommended? Should I simply load it into the bed with the tailgate down instead?

It isn’t the bike’s weight; the hitch ought to be rated for at least that. The reason for this is that it swings about wildly. The hitch is not meant for those loads, and that torques it like crazy. It might be alright if you only load it a few times a year. I would prefer to have it on a trailer or in the bed for everyday use.

Many dirt bike enthusiasts use hitch-mounted carriers like the Black Widow AMC-400, MotoTote, and VersaHaul, providing a secure and convenient way to transport bikes using a vehicle’s hitch.
Hi, Daniel. It is not the weight of the bike; the hitch should be rated for at least that amount. It’s the fact that it swings around wildly.
