Questions about lift and tire fitment, will a 285 work?

I just got an 18 Tacoma TRD Off-Road and I’m thinking of adding a 2-inch lift. Will a 285 tire fit under there without rubbing too much? I’m okay with some mods, but I don’t want anything too extreme like cutting metal.

I already have a set of 17x9 wheels with 0 offset, Falcons.

There’s a lot of info on this in this forum and other places. Congrats on the truck! From what I’ve researched, a 285/70 R17 tire should fit fine. You might need to do some minor shaping of the plastic in the wheel well. You can use a heat gun to reshape or just trim a little with a razor knife. I’m waiting until I need new tires to really get into it, though.

It’s important to know what lifting actually does. It’s a bit more than just raising the truck. With your setup, lifting an IFS (Independent Front Suspension) system reduces your suspension’s down travel. Wider tires and a more offset wheel might also cause issues with the body mount, pinch weld, or mud flaps when turning.

I could keep saying this, but most people still go out thinking “a higher truck is a cooler truck” and spend money on things they don’t need.

Quick tip: The stock Tacoma with stock tires has more suspension travel than a lifted one.

I had to do some light trimming to fit my 285s. Having 0 offset wheels and adjustable UCAs definitely helped me out.
