Steering Wheel Not Locking

So, I’m setting up my '24 TRD Sport for towing behind our RV with all four tires on the ground. I have got everything wired and installed, but I’m hitting a snag by bypassing the steering wheel lock.

To unlock the steering wheel and keep the truck off while towing, you need to tap into the steering wheel fuse and install an in-line switch (or remove the fuse) during the accessory mode, then turn everything off. I’m trying to do this, but before I connect my switch and tap into the fuse, I wanted to make sure my tapping was correct and start with a “locked” steering wheel. However, I can’t seem to get my steering wheel to lock.

Could someone please verify if the steering wheel locks automatically once you switch off your truck and open the door?

Mine isn’t locking. I’ve tried everything: turning off the truck, unlocking the doors, opening and closing the door, locking everything, and walking away, but the steering wheel won’t lock.

I’ve got the front wheels 1-2 inches off the ground and can move them by hand. I’ve also tried with the wheels on the ground, and still, the steering wheel isn’t locking.

Any help is appreciated.

It could be that your detent is damaged or just worn out.

GM has been leaving out the steering wheel lock from their U.S. market cars for several years. They still meet the NHTSA’s theft protection requirements without it.
