Good question. I compared a $35k 2023 TRD Sport to a $35k 2024 SR5.

Ouch, yeah. I wish there was a true bare-bones version of the '24s. All the basics, nothing fancy. A manual transmission one is cool, but $39k for a 4x4 SR is still a lot.
Appreciate the insights. As a 4th gen owner myself, it’s refreshing to hear positives from someone who knows the older models. Most complaints come from those who haven’t driven it or are just bitter about prices going up.
Only time will tell how these hold up long-term.
@Bao
Right? The haters are usually 3rd gen folks who think the new one makes theirs look bad. All Tacomas are cool, though. This beef is so unnecessary.

Amen!
@Bao
I remember the same doubts when the 3rd gen came out. Mine turned out to be bulletproof.

Longevity is a tricky thing. Even so-called ‘proven’ engines can end up having problems. Live your life and buy what makes you happy.
As a fellow 4th gen owner, I was sold immediately after my test drive. They really nailed it with this one.

Same! Saw one parked, noticed the new rear suspension, and went straight to the dealer. Ended up trading in that day. Didn’t see it coming.
@Blake
Enjoy it! I haven’t missed my 3rd gen at all.
Honestly, I think the new design looks great.
Enjoy the new truck! My 2024 has been a fantastic experience, and I’m loving the updates.
I just got a 2024 SR5, 2WD long bed. No frame of reference since I never had the older models, but I’m digging this one. Last truck I had was an ‘81 Datsun King Cab, and it cost my dad like $7k new. Now I’m paying almost $41k for a truck. Wild times. /s
@Morgan
I’m the same. Got a 2024 OR Premium, and it’s my first Toyota or truck ever. Love it. My husband drives a 2023 4Runner OR, and while it’s a tank, the Tacoma feels way peppier and more fun.
Snow already? I’m not ready for winter yet.

Up in Alaska, snow arrives in October and sticks around until May. I love it though—snowmachining, trapping, ice fishing. It’s a blast.
@Blake
Curious, why’d you choose the SR5 trim? I’m only doing light off-roading, like ice fishing and camping, so I’m eyeing the SR5 too. Trading in my 200k mile 1st gen Tundra.

Honestly, just the price. I don’t need the fancy features. I wanted 4WD and a double cab, and that was it. The more expensive trims weren’t worth it for me since I probably wouldn’t use all the extras.
@Blake
Makes sense. Thanks for the advice! Hope you catch plenty this ice fishing season!
