Anyone else think these prices are just crazy?

Hi everyone, I’ve been trying to buy a Tacoma for about a year now but can’t seem to find one that’s worth the price.
I just went an hour and a half out of my way to check one out, been sitting on the dealer’s lot for 65 days and the salesman admitted no one has even test-driven it because it’s a manual. 2017 TRD Pro, 56k miles, peeling clear on the headlights, low power steering fluid, ripped leather seats, no sunroof. And he’s telling me it’s ‘mint,’ while they want $35,000 plus $800 in fees with no flexibility at all!

My friend bought a similar model for $33.5k in 2022 with fewer miles. I’m seeing other options I would consider, but every dealer is sticking to ‘no negotiation prices.’ Has anyone else ever heard of this?

It’s probably because MSRP on the new 2024 models has jumped so much. People who can’t afford new ones are driving up the used market prices.

Great… just my luck.

Honestly, if you’ve got a pulse, a halfway decent credit score, and $1,000 to put down, banks will lend you what you need, and people are taking on crazy car loans.

Exactly… you barely even need a decent credit score these days.

Yeah, prices are brutal. I got my ‘16 TRD Sport, 6-speed, brand new, 0 miles, for around $33k out the door… Feels like a different era now!

Insane! I’d have jumped on that, but I was still in high school back then :sweat_smile:

@Davis
Haha, yeah, I guess that just makes me the old guy here.

Totally agree. I bought my 2018 brand new for a similar price… and last year, a dealer offered me $30k on trade-in. It’s wild how much these trucks hold their value.

First time seeing how crazy Tacoma prices are? Bottom line, if the price feels off, you can always walk away… people are willing to pay if they feel it’s worth it.

Actually been looking for a year… even had two deals ready to go, only for the dealer to sell it to someone else while I was on my way.

I’ve seen way more Tacoma TRD Pros out there than Ranger Raptors or any Colorado models. Toyota knows how to sell, no matter the price. Plus, they’ve got that long-standing reputation for reliability.

I paid MSRP, and honestly, I’d do it again. Trucks aren’t cheap right now, and with the 2024 model, you’re getting a lot more. Most folks don’t need all the new features, but it’s all priced in, and Toyota will still move them.

@Remi
People keep comparing pre-covid prices, but we’re past that now.

Got a 2022 TRD Off-Road with 60k miles last month after months of searching. Paid $37,700 but made sure to get a Toyota certified warranty. It’s more than I wanted to spend, but the warranty makes me feel better about any future repairs.

Picked up a ‘23 Off-Road with 21k miles for $41.5k. Not exactly a bargain, but it’s certified by Toyota, so it’s what I wanted. An option I thought about was getting an SR or SR5 and upgrading it over time.

Seems like people with too much money and not enough sense are driving up these prices. They buy new just to have it, not for the value.

That’s the reality now. People keep paying these prices, so they stay high. I paid about $45k for a 2022 off-road with 15k miles. Needed a truck, so here we are.

That’s about what a brand-new one goes for, just so you know.

@Jessie
Yep, pretty frustrating…
